All Pass or Satisfactory grades earned in Spring 2020 (using a Pass/Fail or Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grade scale) will still be considered for admission to the program. Each course affected will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and will still be subject to Laramie County Community College's Transfer Grade policies. If you have questions, please contact the Program Director or Advisor for the program.

Application Process

Apply to Laramie County Community College prior to applying to the Echocardiography Program. The LCCC admissions process will take about 5 minutes and is free. This must be completed prior to the application. Students must provide an official copy of all past college transcripts to the LCCC Enrollment Services office. An official transcript must be provided with the Echocardiography application.

If you are a current student or have taken courses at LCCC within the last year, you do not need to reapply to LCCC.

Transfer students are required to contact a Student Success Coach as part of the admission process. To make an appointment, use the Navigate app in myLCCC.

Completion of, or in the process of completion, all required prerequisites as outlined in the program application and the college catalog corresponding to the year in which the student plans to enter. All must be completed or in progress with a grade of “C” or better by the application deadline. All applicants must have a prerequisite GPA of 3.0 or higher to be eligible for the program. For the Echocardiography Certification, a GPA of 2.5 or higher is required for eligibility. If a student has a late start course, they may be ineligible and must contact the Program Director.

For any courses that are in-progress at the time of application, you must have your instructor complete the following online form. Copy this link, and email it to your instructor: https://www.cognitoforms.com/LaramieCountyCommunityCollege9/InProgressGradeReportForm

  1. Prior to performing any observations, read and sign the Pre-Admission Observation Guidelines and Acceptance Form.

  2. Contact an imaging facility to observe an imaging professional.

  3. Upon arrival at the imaging facility, provide the imaging professional you are observing with a link to the Pre-Admission Observation Evaluation Form, which they will complete. You may direct them to Apply to the Program.

We recommend students review the Observation Evaluation questions prior to completing their clinical observation.

  4. Applicants must observe a minimum of 8 hours with an imaging professional and observation forms must be signed by the individual you observed.  Complete observation of a hospital and/or clinical facility for the imaging specialty (sonography or echocardiography).

Observation hours provide prospective students with a better understanding of the imaging professional daily work, and it is beneficial to get these hours in a variety of settings, such as a hospital or clinical setting (Imaging Center). For this reason, employment experience related to healthcare is also recognized during the application.

Note: Some facilities require proof of immunizations prior to your observation. Please allow adequate time to complete these actions. Additionally, we request students contact offices to make an appointment and to ask about proper attire (i.e., scrubs) during your observation hours.

All prerequisites must be a 'C' or above. Completion of prerequisites with the minimum 'C' requirement will not be enough to qualify for a 3.0 prerequisite GPA, or be competitive for consideration into the Echocardiography program. Most applicants accepted into the Echocardiography program have completed the majority of the prerequisites with an average grade of 'B' or higher.

Applications will be reviewed by the Application Committee after the submission deadline. The Echocardiography Department will conduct a final evaluation of your coursework by comparing the course worksheet to your official transcripts. Applications that are incomplete, not submitted online through the application portal on the Echocardiography website, or submitted past the deadline will not be considered.

Acceptance is based on points. Score sheet will be available at the end of April.

Successful applicants will be notified of their conditional acceptance by late March via email. Note: As applications for financial aid are due Apr. 1, eligible applicants for aid should apply by Apr. 1 rather than waiting until notification of acceptance.

After conditional acceptance to the Echocardiography Program, proof of the following additional requirements must be submitted to the Echocardiography Program by the dates stipulated in the acceptance letter. Failure to meet all requirements may result in forfeiting your seat:

  • A completed physical examination form including verification of current vaccinations and titers (Hepatitis B, Rubella, Rubeola, PPD, Diphtheria-Tetanus, Varicella). To help expedite your terms for acceptance, complete the physical examination and verification of vaccinations and titers ASAP. Medical Screening with Vaccination Requirements.
  • Acceptable drug screening and criminal background checks.

At their discretion, clinical sites may require a drug screening and/or criminal background check prior to allowing students into the clinical setting. (If required, any associated fees will be the responsibility of the student.) In addition, clinical sites may require random drug testing and/or drug testing for reasonable cause. Generally, the urine drug test screens for illegal drugs or drugs that impair judgment while in the clinical agency. Testing positive on the screening, or evidence of tampering with a specimen, will disqualify a student from participating in the clinical assignment or acceptance to the Sonography program. In addition to drug screening, for the safety of patients and health care workers, child abuse clearance and criminal background checks are required by some agencies prior to a clinical assignment. Certain criminal activity, as evidenced by a criminal background check, may also disqualify a student from clinical participation or acceptance to the Sonography Program. Students are advised that the inability to gain clinical education experiences can result in the inability to meet program objectives and outcomes. These circumstances may prevent final acceptance into and/or progression through the program, and may ultimately result in dismissal from the program.
