Updates to Dental Hygiene Program to foster student success; applications open March 17
CHEYENNE, Wyoming – Future dental hygienists will have a clearer, more accessible path to success at Laramie County Community College, as the Dental Hygiene Program introduces an updated timeline beginning in 2025.
Applications for the Fall 2025 cohort open Mar. 17, marking a shift from the previous application cycle, which began in summer for a spring semester start. The move to a traditional academic calendar offers a two-year program spanning five semesters, with more intuitive scheduling, smoother transitions from prerequisite courses, and better alignment with campus-wide support services.
“This change gives students more time to absorb the material and build their skills, ultimately setting them up for success,” said Amber Braunschweig, Dental Hygiene Program director. “It also gives faculty more time to prepare between terms, ensuring we deliver the highest-quality instruction and support.”
The decision reflects LCCC’s ongoing commitment to student success, informed by feedback from students, faculty and staff. Aligning the program with a traditional schedule provides students with a clearer path to graduation and opens additional professional opportunities. Students will have greater access to national recognition events and professional associations, as well as increased flexibility in preparing for board examinations.
With demand for dental hygienists at an all-time high, Braunschweig said now is an ideal time to pursue this career. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects strong job growth for dental hygienists, and opportunities abound both in Wyoming and across the country. In addition to excellent pay, dental hygienists often enjoy flexible schedules and consistent demand in communities across the U.S.
“Dental hygiene is a highly rewarding career that allows people to work when and where they want,” Braunschweig said. “You’re providing vital preventative care and making a real difference in patients’ lives.”
LCCC’s Dental Hygiene Program continues to set the standard for excellence in the region. The program boasts outstanding graduation and job placement rates, with many students securing employment before they graduate. Graduates consistently achieve high pass rates on board exams and enter the workforce prepared for successful careers.
“Most of our students have job offers before they finish the program,” Braunschweig said. “It’s a testament to the quality of education and clinical preparation they receive at LCCC.”
Prospective students interested in joining the Fall 2025 Dental Hygiene Program cohort can submit applications beginning Mar. 17.
