The Music Faculty Showcase is set for 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 22, in the Surbrugg Prentice Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public. The concert will last about 90 minutes.

Lively musical performances during the event promise to captivate students, the performers' peers and the public with an enticing selection of works, said Dr. Frank Cook, LCCC music instructor and director of bands. The concert will be entertaining, but Cook said it is also a part of music students’ education.

“In addition to offering some exceptional talent for the performance, this is also a demonstration for students of what is expected in their own performances, the level of preparation needed and other important aspects of their education,” Cook said. “We really want to put that pedagogical emphasis on that this is what you need to be doing in your lessons so that at the end of the semester, you can go and do likewise.”

Performers include LCCC music faculty members and instructors Bethany Smith-Jacobs, Julie Koenig, Susie Fritts, Andrew Mrozinsky, Amy Gunn, Rex Amend and Cook. Janet Weisbrook and Lindsay Laping are slated to perform as special guests.

All performances will be solos or duets, featuring pieces such as an aria from “Little Women,” the first opera written by American composer Mark Adamo; the “Happy Duet,” made famous by Judy Garland and Barbara Streisand; “Escapades for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra” from the 2002 film “Catch Me If You Can;” “Pastorale: For Trumpet, Tenor Or Bass Trombone and Piano” by Eric Ewazen and more.
