LCCC students to collaborate with playwright for upcoming “Orion” performances
CHEYENNE, Wyoming – A play that questions love, fate and the stories we tell ourselves is set to hit the Laramie County Community College stage this month in Cheyenne.
Performances of “Orion” are set for 7 p.m. Nov. 14-16 and Nov. 21-23 in the Playhouse on LCCC’s Cheyenne campus. The play is recommended for an audience 13 years and older because of some mild adult language.
“Orion” tells the story of Sam and Gwen as they navigate the emotional aftermath of a breakup that feels far from over. Guided by friends, Sam searches for his place in Gwen's life, even as Gwen struggles to let him go. The play dives into the complexity of love, exploring relationships that linger beyond their end. With honesty, humor and a touch of charm, playwright Matthew McLachlan’s debut captures the sacrifices people make for love and the reasons they find to hold on, resonating with anyone who has faced love’s lasting impact.
In a unique opportunity for LCCC Theatre students, McLachlan will be visiting campus in the week leading up to the first set of performances, collaborating on final rehearsals. McLachlan, who is based in New York, has visited LCCC on multiple occasions in the past, elevating learning experiences for LCCC Theatre students. McLachlan will be joined by D.J. Zayas, a New York-based producer and director, and Amanda Jones, an Atlanta-based actress who originated the role of Gwen in the first production of “Orion.”
The play is directed by LCCC students Michael Herda and Miles Fischer. Jason Pasqua, LCCC Theatre instructor, served as “the mechanic,” helping the directors with fine-tuning along the way. Additionally, Pasqua said the Playhouse set for “Orion” will make for an unforgettable experience.
Tickets are $10 and available at the door and at lccc.wy.edu/theatretickets. Admission is free for LCCC students with student ID.
