CHEYENNE, Wyoming – Families and music fans are invited to Laramie County Community College Oct. 27 for this year’s Trunk-or-Treat event and Things That Go Bump in the Night III concert. Both events are free and open to the public.

Trunk-or-treat begins at 1 p.m. in the Crossroads Building, which is on the east end of campus just south of the Clay Pathfinder Building. Everyone is invited to wear costumes and children can collect candy as they walk through LCCC’s campus to the Fine Arts Building. A large turnout is expected, so trunk-or-treaters are encouraged to arrive early so they can make sure to catch the concert afterward.

"We love being part of children’s Halloween fun each year through this increasingly popular tradition," said J O’Brien, Communication & Creative Arts Pathway coordinator. "Trunk-or-treat is one of the ways we show our appreciation for the community’s support of LCCC. Families always have a great time, and we enjoy it just as much. The whole LCCC family invites you to fill your bags with candy and enjoy an unforgettable night of live music.”

The concert kicks off at 3 p.m. in the Surbrugg/Prentice Auditorium, where the Wind Ensemble, Cantorei Choir and Chamber Orchestra will deliver thrilling and eerie performances.

Concert-goers will enjoy musicians in costume and spooky narrations from LCCC student presenters introducing the afternoon’s pieces.

“It’s going to be a really fun, slightly spooky Halloween event with a great mix of classical, Broadway and film music,” said Frank Cook, LCCC music instructor and ensemble director. “The whole atmosphere will be perfect for fall — entertaining, but with just enough of an eerie vibe to remind you it’s Halloween. It’s one of those events where you’ll feel the fun and excitement of the season.”

The Wind Ensemble’s performance will feature pieces such as 1990s Broadway classic “Jekyll & Hyde;” Edwin Franko Goldman’s “Scherzo,” a piece originally written for trumpet that experienced a resurrection on the euphonium; and the Passacaglia from Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor.” The Canteorei will delight the audience with well-known tunes from “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” including fan favorites “This is Halloween,” “What’s This” and more. Closing the afternoon’s entertainment, the Chamber Orchestra will perform Doug Spata’s “A Wicked Vow” and Jeffrey Hart’s “Harvest Ritual” before offering “Symphony No. 2 (Finale) by Emilie Mayer as a dramatic and powerful conclusion.

It should be noted that last year’s performance saw a full house in the 400-seat auditorium, so Cook said those wishing to find a seat for the performance should arrive early.
