Applications being accepted for students wanting to earn a bachelor’s degree at LCCC

CHEYENNE, WYO. – Now that Laramie County Community College is approved to offer bachelor of applied science (BAS) degrees, applications are being accepted for the two new degree options.

Starting this fall, students can begin earning their BAS in applied management or healthcare administration. Prospective students must already possess an associate of applied science in any field.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for our current and former students to get an advanced degree,” said Jeff Shmidl, the interim program director of Business & Finance.

Some of the benefits of getting a BAS at LCCC include:

  • The per-credit tuition rate at LCCC is the same for the bachelor’s programs as it is for the associate degrees
  • $1000 grant for all students entering for Fall 2020
  • Students can remain employed and take classes online
  • Small class sizes with local instructors
  • Classes available online or in-person, depending on the students’ needs

According to Danielle Opp, who is coordinating the healthcare administration BAS degree for the college, recent studies have also suggested that people with a bachelor’s degree earn more than $17,000 per year compared to those with an associate degree, and the same group is less likely to be unemployed.

LCCC worked closely to survey area businesses and industry sectors regarding the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed in the workplace. Feedback was used to incorporate the course design and content of the programs. Businesses interested in assisting with internships provided input into the course content and desired program outcomes. College faculty and current and potential students were also surveyed to determine the level of interest in the programs, various pathways for students and flexibility of the offerings.

“In Laramie County, and across Wyoming, we recognize the importance of helping more individuals access a path to a bachelor’s degree. It is critical for our current and future economic success,” LCCC President Dr. Joe Schaffer said.

The preferred application date for the programs is July 15. For more help with the application process, contact admissionsFREELARAMIE. Information about these programs is also available at lccc.wy.edu/BAS.
