About:
A career educator, Kenya Haynes has experience in the full P20 education continuum. She has sixteen years of state-level administrative experience focusing on areas of school improvement, accreditation, and vulnerable youth, including six years as State Coordinator for the education of homeless children and youth, and 12 years as State Coordinator for neglected or delinquent youth and State Liaison for gender equity and civil rights at the Wyoming Department of Education. At the National Center for Homeless Education (NCHE), the US Department of Education technical assistance center, Ms. Haynes provided focused technical assistance to 37 states. She led NCHE’s technical assistance for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program, assisting communities in developing cross-systems plans to end unaccompanied youth homelessness. A past acting president of the National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth (NAEHCY) and Liaison to the National Expert Panel of the National Technical Assistance Center for the Education of Children and Youth Who Are Neglected, Delinquent or At-Risk, she has participated in national policy discussions. Ms. Haynes has presented at the national level and actively mentored new State Coordinators.
