Author featured in LCCC’s High Plains Register wins writing award

CHEYENNE, WYO. — The Colorado Authors' League honored Art Elser of Denver for his work featured in the High Plains Register, a publication of Laramie County Community College.

Elser won in the "collection of poetry" category. All five of his submitted poems appeared in the 2016 issue of the High Plains Register.

"I was surprised as the other finalist had a book of poetry and figured that would win easily," Elser said of this, his second CAL award.

The contest judges shared these comments about his collection: "Thoughtful and moving poems that address a variety of themes, from memories of the Vietnam War to the search for extraterrestrial life to the plight of those (both human and animal) who are lonely, disabled, or homeless."

Established in 1989, the High Plains Register is a student-produced literary and arts journal featuring the work of emerging and established writers and artists from Wyoming and the surrounding states.
