What will I learn?

Students in the diesel technology program learn how to diagnose, adjust, repair, overhaul, and maintain any type of diesel engine from LCCC's Medium- and Heavy-Duty Truck Master ASE Certified diesel instructors.

Students study in the classroom and online in addition to hands-on training.

The LCCC Diesel Technology Program gives you the chance to:

  • Perform a complete disassembly and assembly of a diesel engine
  • Complete diesel engine tune-ups on variety of engines; such as, Cat, Cummins, PACCAR, Volvo, Detroit Diesel product.
  • Perform wheel alignments on straight trucks, semi-tractors and trailers
  • Service, repair and replace the components of truck suspension systems and frames.
  • Learn how to identify, locate and diagnose the components of truck brake systems, including hydraulic, air-over-hydraulic or air brake systems.
  • Service, repair and replace the Drivetrain components; such as, clutches, transmissions, axle carriers, axles shafts, hub assemblies and wheels & tire assemblies
  • Service and repair diesel fuel systems such as the Common Rail System, Detroit Diesel Electronic Controls (DDEC), Caterpillar EUI and others.
  • Learn how to use PC based diagnostics; such as, J-Pro, Cat ET, Cummins InSite, DDDL, Navistar engine Diagnostics, etc…
  • Train on A/C and Electrical/Electronic simulators such as lighting systems, CAN Bus and other electrical systems found in today’s modern trucks.
  • Perform service and tests on Battery, Charging and Starting system
  • Learn basic electric theory and how to use a multimeter, test light, and other electrical testing equipment to troubleshoot electrical issues.
  • Prepare for ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Medium and Heavy Duty Truck certifications.

LCCC partners with Navistar, Volvo Trucks, PACCAR, DTNA and Caterpillar dealerships to stay current and maintain high-tech facilities. In addition, they provide student access to online training online service information systems, and factory diagnostics software. 

The Diesel Technology Program at LCCC is Truck Service Technology Level Accredited by the ASE Education Foundation, a division of the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).

 

Diesel Technology Credit Diploma

Credit Diploma

This nine-month program is designed for full-time students, and the courses are offered in a sequence of blocks. The block varies from three to four weeks in length depending on the number of credits for each course. Classes are held from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. These courses are designed to prepare students for the ASE certification exam.
