Monday, February 01, 2010
Men's basketball team has 10-10 record.

The LCCC men's basketball team opened its Jan. 29 game vs. 25th-ranked Casper College on a 7-0 run and never looked back. The Golden Eagles defeated Casper, 75-61, having never trailed in the game and building a 13-point lead in the first half. Back-to-back 3-point field goals by Antonio DiMaria and Michael Dietz of Casper cut into the lead. However, LCCC held Casper to just 19 percent shooting from the field in the first half and led 30-24 at intermission.

Unlike the earlier contest in Casper, where LCCC gave up a 16-point halftime lead, the Eagles were able to maintain the defensive pressure while committing only four second-half turnovers against Casper’s full court pressure. Davin Anderson and Terrance Dent led the way for the Eagles in the second half. Anderson scored 15 of his game-high 18 points in the second half. Dent scored 10 of his 13 points in the second half, including two 3-point baskets late in the game that helped the Eagles pull away.

Davin Anderson (LCCC) 18 pts, 8 rebounds, 4 assists

On Jan. 30, LCCC was beaten 81-71 by consistent play from the Pronghorns of Gillette College. Gillette connected on six first half three-point baskets and raced to a 12 point lead midway through the first half. The Golden Eagles fought back and trailed by four points before Gillette’s Lovell Cook ended the half with a put back basket. The Pronghorns lead 39-36 at intermission.

The second half was more of the same as Gillette was consistently able to drive the ball past LCCC’s defenders and find open shooters. However, the Eagles found an offensive rhythm of their own and trailed by only two points with twelve minutes remaining. Gillette answered with a 5-0 run and never looked back. Gillette knocked down 10 3-pointers for the game.
