Speech & Debate team stays busy, successful

Students place well in number of competitions.
 
The LCCC speech and debate team has been very active the past few weeks. The results follow:

At the Novice National Tournament (open to college students in their first year of competition), LCCC placed 5th in team sweepstakes with points accumulated by two students. Paige Russell and Stephanie Bradley tied for 16 in Parliamentary Debate.

At the Junior Varsity Tournament in Wichita, Kan., the team took first-place honors in the small school division.
  • Kirsten Ryel placed 6th in Dramatic Interpretation and was named 3rd best speaker in Parliamentary Debate.
  • Rebecca Piroutek placed 6th in Extemporaneous Speaking.
  • Sam Schmitt was named 6th best speaker in Parliamentary Debate.
  • Ryel and Schmitt reached the final round of Parliamentary Debate and placed 2nd.

At the Phi Rho Pi tournament (community colleges only) the debate team of Ryel and Thaler reached the top 15 in Parliamentary Debate, earning a bronze award. The team received silver recognition in the Debate Sweepstakes Hindman Division. Russell made the top 25 in Dramatic Interpretation.

The team is coached by Zeke Sorenson, Ami Goehring and Dave Gaer.
