Women’s soccer finishes regular season with two shutouts

Golden Eagles play in Regional Tournament on Oct. 22.
The 11th-ranked Laramie County Community College women’s soccer team beat conference opponent Northwest College 4-0 at home on Oct. 15.

The Golden Eagles outshot the Trappers 30-1 but didn’t find the back of the net until the 22nd minute, when Shino Kunisawa put away a penalty kick. Monica Lubin scored the second goal, assisted by Emi Yamamoto. The halftime score was 2-0.

In the second half, the Golden Eagles took complete control of the match. Junko Honda scored two more goals in the 65th and 78th minutes, both assisted by Yamamoto. Goalkeepers Lauren Pelkey and Aissa Lopez are both credited with the shutout.

The 11th-ranked Golden Eagles defeated the Colorado University Gold club team 1-0 in overtime on Oct. 17. Both teams struggled to find the net. After 90 minutes of play the score was still tied at zero. In overtime, Emi Yamamoto placed a free kick in the CU Gold’s net for the game winner in the 97th minute. Lauren Pelkey and the Golden Eagles defense are credited with the shutout.

The women’s soccer team (14-3-1 overall, 6-0 Region IX) will travel to Scottsbluff, Neb., for the first game in the Region IX tournament against Northwest College (2-8-1 overall, 0-6 in Region IX) at 1 p.m. on Oct. 22.
