Men's and women's soccer teams clean up over weekend

Men’s team wins two on the road; women go 3-1 at Colorado University Tournament.

 
Men's Soccer

The Laramie County Community College men’s soccer team traveled to Rock Springs, Wyo., on Sept. 24 for a conference game against Western Wyoming Community College. LCCC beat the Mustangs 5-2.

LCCC controlled the entire first half, led by Tyler Arbuckle’s four goals. Arbuckle scored in the 14th minute, assisted by Colton Cook; in the 30th minute, assisted by Cord Stimpson; in the 43rd minute, assisted by Marcelo Souza; and in the 45th minute, assisted by Guilherme Andrade. The halftime score was 4-0.

Stimpson scored LCCC’s final goal in the 52nd minute of the second half, assisted by Andrade. The Mustangs scored two late goals in the final minutes, but it wasn’t enough to catch the Golden Eagles.

The men’s team then traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah, to play against Salt Lake Community College on Sept. 25. The Golden Eagles took the victory 5-1.

The Bruins scored the first goal in the 18th minute of play, but LCCC’s Tyler Arbuckle struck back in the 31st minute to tie the game, assisted by Landon Horst. Arbuckle scored again in the 39th minute, assisted by Colton Cook, to take a 2-1 lead at the half.

LCCC didn’t want to rest on the 2-1 lead. The Golden Eagles took charge of the second half, and Casey Allen scored in the 56th minute, assisted by Cord Stimpson. In the 76th minute, Cord Stimpson scored by dribbling through the Bruin defense. The final goal of the match came in the 85th minute by Dustin Hegstrom, assisted by Arbuckle.

The men’s soccer team (7-5-1 overall, 3-2-1 Region IX) will host Otero Jr. College on Sept. 28 at 4 p.m. All Golden Eagle athletic events are free.

Women’s Soccer

The women’s soccer team traveled to Boulder, Colo., on Sept. 24-26, to play four games in the Colorado University soccer tournament.

The Golden Eagles won three out of four games. LCCC beat the Bradley club team 7-1. Both Junko Honda and Emi Yamamoto scored two goals each, and Amanda Halter, Cori Mizel and Brittney DeMartin each had a goal.

LCCC then beat the Nebraska club team 5-0. The Golden Eagles had five different goal scorers, Iren Dahan, Shino Kunisawa, DeMartin, Halter and Honda.

The Golden Eagles then beat Cal-Berkley 1-0. Monica Lubin scored the winning goal.

Colorado State’s Gold club team beat the Golden Eagles 1-0. The Golden Eagles improve their record to 8-3 overall.

The women’s soccer team (8-3 overall, 4-0 Region IX) will host Western Wyoming Community College on Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. All Golden Eagle athletic events are free.
