Volleyball team wraps up regular season

LCCC finishes with one win, one loss.

The Laramie County Community College volleyball team hit the road on Oct. 29 for a match against Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, Wyo. The Golden Eagles improved to 12-17 on the year and 4-8 in Region IX north with a victory over Eastern Wyoming in four sets (25-10, 25-12, 19-25 and 25-22).

The Golden Eagles got off on the right foot and took the first set 25-10, dominating in all phases of the game. Getting great opportunities from great communication on the court allowed points to go in LCCC’s favor. The momentum carried over into the second set with a 25-12 victory.

Eastern Wyoming was finally able to get something going and took the third set 25-19. The Golden Eagles didn’t let Eastern get back into it by taking the fourth set 25-22. On the night, the Golden Eagles had a total of 54 kills on 175 attempts, 47 assists on 151 attempts, and 124 digs. Sophomore Madi Lacey had a season-high 56 digs to lead the Golden Eagles. On the attack, it was freshman Kanani Auwae with 18 kills and sophomore Rory McCloy with 26 assists.

Golden Eagles lose final game of regular season
The Golden Eagles finished the regular season with a match on Oct. 31 against Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo. Northeastern took the match in three sets (24-26, 21-25 and 13-25).

LCCC fought tough in the first set but was not able to pull off the win. In the second set, it was the same story as the Golden Eagles had opportunities to take the set, , but Northeastern held on to win by a score of 25-21. Northeastern remained in control in the third set with a victory of 25-13, and won the match in three sets.

As a group the Golden Eagles had 34 kills, 30 assist, 10 block assists, 77 digs and 2 serve aces. Up next for the Golden Eagles is the Region IX North Tournament in Torrington. The Golden Eagles will open up playing Casper College on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 4 p.m.
