Special reading of “Watch My Rising” to take place at LCCC

CHEYENNE, WYO. — As part of Laramie County Community College's Alcohol Awareness Week, students and faculty will read from the anthology Watch My Rising, a collection of stories and poems about recovery from addiction and alcoholism. Free and open to the public, the event takes place 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, in the LCCC Student Lounge. Refreshments will be provided.

The book is available for purchase on Amazon.com and will also be sold at the reading. Proceeds from the book will benefit Recover Wyoming.

Cheyenne resident Lynn Carlson is the editor of the anthology. A long-time volunteer with Recover Wyoming, she approached the college to create this event as a way to bridge the gap between campus and community and to introduce the New Recovery Advocacy Movement to students, particularly those whose lives may also have been affected by addiction or recovery.

Kristin Abraham, English faculty at LCCC, noted that she and others across campus and the community are coordinating different events related to addiction, recovery, and awareness.

The publishers of the anthology shared this about the book: "Our goal is to join others in the New Recovery Advocacy Movement in sharing the stories of people in recovery from addiction. Their stories, because of stigma, haven't been told nearly enough."
