LCCC got off to slow start Tuesday evening in Torrington but dug itself out of a hole late in the match. The Golden Eagles hurt themselves in the first sets by committing several errors, but they got settled into the match in set three. Freshman Kiley Ridgway (Riverton, Wyoming) led the Golden Eagles with six assisted blocks and three serving aces to go along with eight kills in the match.

Sophomore MiKayla Martinez (Erie, Colorado) led the team with 17 kills on the evening and only committing four errors in the match. Suzie Rhodes (Bayfield, Colorado), who has been very consistent for the Golden Eagles as of late, dished out 24 assists. Freshman Tori Passarelli (Littleton, Colorado) stepped up big for the team and recorded 18 digs.

The Golden Eagles snapped a three-game losing streak and are now 19-8 on the year and 4-3 in Region IX North. Men’s soccer team moves to 11-5 on the year

The Laramie County Community College men’s soccer program closed out its regular season home finale with a 6-1 victory over Western Nebraska Community College.

A slow and sloppy start by the Golden Eagles allowed the Cougars to get on the board first in the 16th minute. Guillerme Oliveria lofted his shot over goalkeeper Hugo Garcia (Provo, Utah). It didn’t take long for the Golden Eagles to answer, though, as freshman Rafael Munoz (Las Vegas, Nevada) stole a pass from the defender and converted 30 seconds later. Sophomore Luis Lopez (Wellington, Colorado) gave the Golden Eagles the lead when he headed home a corner kick from Munoz in the 30th minute. LCCC led at the half 2-1.

Freshman Tristan White (Riverton, Wyoming) pushed the lead to two in the 60th minute when he took the ball away from a defender buried his shot far post. Munoz tallied his second goal of the game in the 62nd minute after freshman Hayden Humphrey (Cheyenne, Wyoming) fed him a pass. Freshman Alber Cornejo (Heber City, Utah) recorded his first goal of the season when he converted a pass from sophomore Mario Garcia (Idaho Falls, Idaho) in the 67th minute. Freshman Shuaib Hamid (Cheyenne, Wyoming) got the final goal in the 88th minute, and freshman Daniel Medina was credited with the assist.

LCCC moves to 11-5 on the year and 6-1 in Region IX North play. The Golden Eagles close out the regular season this Friday, Oct. 16, in Rock Springs at 2:30 p.m.
