Season over for men’s soccer

The Laramie County Community College men’s soccer team didn’t expect its season to come to an end so early, but that was the case Saturday afternoon when the Golden Eagles collapsed and fell to the Raiders from Central Community College 2-1 at home in a Region IX Quarter-Final matchup.

LCCC had the majority of the opportunities, outshooting the Raiders 27-6 in the match and having the edge in corner kicks at 11-0. LCCC took the lead in the ninth minute of the game when freshman Rafael Munoz (Las Vegas, Nevada) chipped a corner kick to the far post, and sophomore Luis Lopez (Wellington, Colorado) headed it back across the goal to freshman Tristan White (Riverton, Wyoming), who in turn headed it into the net. The Raiders came close to tying the game up midway through the first half when a shot hit the post. LCCC led 1-0 at the half.

In the 55th minute, the Raiders capitalized on a foul from the Golden Eagles on the edge of the box. The free kick went under the wall and took a deflection on the way in. Eleven minutes later, the Raider took the lead when Augustine Palma headed in a cross. The Golden Eagles would keep firing away at goal but no real dangerous threats came about it. In the 81st minute freshman Samuel Franceschi (Centennial, Colorado) was taken down in the box and drew a penalty kick. Sophomore Cesar Vargas (Heber City, Utah) stepped and had his shot saved by goalkeeper Victor Cebrero-Cortez.

With the loss the Golden Eagles season ends with a record of 12-6 on the year.
