The Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles men’s soccer team hosted Northeastern Junior College at Cheyenne South High School on Wednesday, Sept. 24, and came away with a 3-0 victory in front of a great crowd.
The Golden Eagles has a season-high 16 corner kicks in the match and outshot the Plainsmen 33-10. LCCC put 16 of those shots on frame. Freshman and Golden Eagle leading scorer Tristan White (Riverton, Wyoming) gave the team a 1-0 lead when he headed home a cross from freshman Alber Cornejo (Heber City, Utah) in the 28th minute. That turned out to be the lone in the first half for the Golden Eagles.
In the second half, the Golden Eagles stepped up the tempo of the game and controlled the majority of the possession on the pitch. Freshman Rafael Munoz (Las Vegas, Nevada) got by a defender and served in a cross to the back post, where sophomore Domey Espinoza (Heber City, Utah) headed off the post and into the net in the 57th minute. Freshman Alex Espinoza (Heber City, Utah) tacked on the final goal in the 68th minute as freshman Caleb Rondon (Los Oliuos, Peru) played him in behind the back line for a one-on-one finish with the keeper.
The Golden Eagles are now 5-4 on the year and head to Scottsbluff, Nebraska, for a Region IX North matchup with Western Nebraska Community College at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25.
