Spring Life Enrichment Offerings

Internet Basics

Tuesday, Feb. 25 | 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. | $10

This course is designed for individuals looking to increase their skillset in navigating the internet. Topics include securing your data, saving and uploading files, using a jump drive, social media navigation, and banking and government website know-how. Ages 16+

Mindfulness for Beginners

Tuesdays, Feb. 25 – Apr. 21 (except Mar. 17) | 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. | $40

This class will guide participants in developing a personal practice within a supportive environment for the practice of mindfulness. Mindfulness is bringing awareness to the present moment without judgment. Research shows mindfulness reduces stress and allows for greater focus in daily life. Each class will include guided practice, an opportunity to discuss what has been introduced, and materials to encourage self-directed practice between class meetings. Ages 16+

Our experienced instructor has practiced yoga and meditation for 15 years and has received her training and certification as a Mindfulness Guide six years ago through Mindful Schools.

Software Basics

Thursday, Feb. 27 | 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. | $20 

This course is designed to provide basic computer software skills.  Topics include Word, Excel, Adobe, and internet software applications at the introductory level. Student will receive an Office 2016 essentials guide to take home. Ages 17+      

Craft Brew

Thursday, Feb. 27 -  Thursday, May 7, as scheduled | $100

LCCC, Altitude, and Bonds Brewery are collaborating on an eight-session course where participants will learn the ins-and outs of home brew by brewing with a seasoned brewer. Topics will cover sanitation, ingredient selection, recipe formulation, fermentation, packaging, taste testing, and more! Home brewing equipment, supplies, and two meals are included. Please note the dates and locations vary with this course. Ages 21+

Sketching and Cartoon Drawing

Tuesday - Thursday, Mar. 23, 24, 25 | 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. | $40

This course provides beginning and intermediate level skills on cartoon and anime style drawing and sketching, including comic strips and book illustrations.  Topics include shapes, silhouette, motion, posing characters, and much more. Supplies are included.  Ages 10+

Art Techniques: Paint

Saturday, Mar. 28 | 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. | $40

In this introductory to intermediate course, students will learn how to capture different landscape objects on canvas using color mixing, value scales, and illusion of depth.  Mediums taught include clouds, sunsets, water, mountains, and trees with oil and acrylic paint. All supplies and lunch are included and students take home two paint brushes of their choice.  Ages 16+

3D Printing, Beginner & Intermediate

Tuesday – Thursday, Apr. 7,8,9 | 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. | $40

This course is designed for students aged 10-14 and provides a first-hand look at the techniques behind 3D printing. The course provides knowledge of machinery and tools from the prototyping stage to full production. Students will use design software to create two detailed digital models to keep. All supplies are included, and students will keep models that they make.  Ages 10+

Fly Tying for Beginners

Saturday,  Apr. 18 | 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. | $40

This course provides the tools needed to begin making fresh water flies. Topics include reading a fly recipe, choosing the correct tools, selecting the right materials, and making beginning to moderate level fly ties in class.  Our instructor has more than 10 years of fly-tying experience and can teach beginning to advanced flies. Lunch and all supplies are included to make 6+ flies.  Ages 16+

Origami

Tuesday – Thursday, Apr. 21, 22, 23 | 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. | $40

This course teaches all levels of origami, from basic to intricate models. Students will learn elements of Japanese culture embedded in origami theory and be able to create models from standard kits to custom designs.  All supplies are included and students will keep models that they make. Ages 10+

Smartphone Photography & Editing 

Saturday,  Apr. 25 | 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. | $20

Want to improve your photos of family and friends? This introductory course will discuss how to take, edit, upload and save photos from any smartphone to your computer. Students will also learn tips and tricks for taking photos on the fly.  Lunch is included.   Ages 18+

 

Outdoor Photography 

Saturday, May 2 | 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. | $40

Ready to move your photography to the next level? This course teaches participants how to manipulate light and composition for effective outdoor photos. Participants will travel to different locations and learn lenses, lighting, depth and composition to create landscape photos on both smartphones and an SLR camera. Bring your smartphone and any camera you are interested in using. SLR camera is available for any individual without a camera. Lunch is included. Ages 18+

Mother’s Day Crafts

Tuesday – Thursday, May 5, 6, 7 | 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. | $40

This DIY course allows exposure to different medians in art and design. A first-hand look at soap making, photography, calligraphy, jewelry making and wood and glass design are provided. Students will create at least one gift of their choice and all supplies are included.  Ages 10+

DIY Home Repair

Saturday, May. 9 | 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. | $60

This course teaches customized home repair basics based upon class interest! This hands-on course is taught by industry experts that help DIYers learn basic repairs for plumbing, woodwork, doors and outlets. Your specific questions and areas of interest will be highlighted during the course. All supplies and lunch are included. Ages 18+

 

Babysitter Training & Standard First Aid

Saturday, May 9 | 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. | $60 

This course teaches the knowledge and skills necessary to responsibly care for children and toddlers in and outside of the home. This includes training in leadership, child behavior and discipline, health and nutrition, professionalism, safety, and basic childcare. Course also includes certification in standard first-aid and basic life support. Ages 12+

Video Making and Editing

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, May 12, 13, 14 | 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. | $20

This course teaches students how to make and edit videos for YouTube and other computer systems. Students will learn the basics of video design and lighting, posting regulations and requirements, and how to use computer based and smartphone software. Students will make a video during class and all supplies are included.  Ages 10+
