Writing & Communications Center
In accordance with LCCC’s mission to transform student lives through the power of inspired learning, the Writing & Communications Center (WCC) guides students in becoming more autonomous writers, speakers, and thinkers. To this end, by listening, asking questions, and providing resources, our tutors empower students to evaluate and make decisions about their own work and encourage them to develop positive attitudes about their communication skills.
Our services are rooted in the belief that purpose- and process-driven, focused, well-organized and well-supported work that meets assignment requirements is most important in effective communication. Thus, we endeavor to create better writers and speakers, not better writing and speeches.
LCCC students should contact us to schedule an appointment or ask about our drop-in hours. Appointments are highly encouraged.
You can also request a tutor.
Students should expect to play an active role in their learning process.

Free Online Tutoring
If it's 3 a.m. and students need help, they can try Smarthinking, a free online service that offers tutoring in many subjects, including math, accounting, chemistry and more. Students access Smarthinking from their D2L account homepage. Students go to ”Student Resources” and click on “Smarthinking.”
More than 80 percent of Smarthinking tutors have a master's degree or Ph.D. in their discipline with an average of eight years of teaching experience. This service has a limited number of hours of tutoring available each semester. Once those hours are reached, online tutoring will not be available until the following semester.
