Placement

To register students for classes, LCCC needs to assess students' skill levels in key areas – English and math. Admission to LCCC isn't based on these scores.

LCCC placement protocols:

  • Final high school cumulative GPA (within the past five years)* OR
  • Math, Reading & English ACT scores (within the past five years) OR
  • Reading & writing scores on the McCann College Success Exam, and score on the ALEKS Math Placement
  • Previously earned college credit (subject to transcript evaluation by the Office of the Registrar)

*Current high school seniors can submit an unofficial high school transcript with their first semester grades to be considered for GPA placement prior to graduation.

ALEKS Math Placement Exam

  • The ALEKS Math Placement Exam consists of multiple test opportunities, coupled with Prep and Learning modules to help students refresh math skills prior to finalizing their placement information.
  • Students must complete an ALEKS pre-test, followed by a personalized Prep & Learning Module (3 hours minimum), prior to completing the ALEKS Math Placement exam.
  • The pre-test and Prep & Learning Module are online and can be completed from home; instructions on how to access and begin with ALEKS are located on the Placement page in EaglesEye.
  • This pre-test and Prep & Learning Module must be completed at least 24 hours before the student completes their ALEKS Math Placement Exam, which must be completed at an LCCC testing center.
  • Distance students who are unable to complete testing at an LCCC campus should email the testing center to discuss distance testing options.

McCann College Success Exam

  • The McCann College Success Exam consists of a reading portion and a writing portion to place students into appropriate LCCC courses.
  • The McCann test must be completed at an LCCC testing center.
  • Distance students who are unable to complete testing at an LCCC campus should email the testing center to discuss distance testing options.

Please note the following guidelines prior to testing:

  • Students must submit an LCCC application before they take a placement test.
  • Students must show a photo ID such as a driver’s license, passport, military ID, etc.
  • Paper, pencil and calculator are provided.
  • Distance students who are unable to complete testing at an LCCC campus should email the testing center to discuss distance testing options.
  • Although there is no time limit, students should allow at least two hours to take both the ALEKS and McCann in the same day.
  • No placement test will be started the last hour before testing stops.
